Updated bounds on milli-charged particles

چکیده
We update the bounds on fermions with electric charge e and mass m . For m . me we find 10−15 . < 1 is excluded by laboratory experiments, astrophysics and cosmology. For larger masses, the limits are less restrictive and depend on m . For milli-charged neutrinos, the limits are stronger, especially if the different flavors mix as suggested by current experimental evidence.

Astrophysical bounds on millicharged particles in models with a paraphoton.
The upper bound on the number of relativistic species present at nucleosynthesis has been used to constrain particles with electric charge e (10−8 < < 1). We correct the bound previously calculated for milli-charged particles that interact with a shadow photon. We also discuss the additional constraints from the properties of red giants and of Supernova 1987A. work supported by NSERC, and the N...
متن کاملThe Stueckelberg Extension and Milli Weak and Milli Charged Dark Matter
A overview is given of the recent developments in the U(1)X Stueckelberg extensions of the Standard Model and of MSSM where all the Standard Model particles are neutral under the U(1)X but an axion which is absorbed is charged under both U(1)X and U(1)Y and acts as the connector field coupling the Standard Model sector with the Stueckelberg sector. Coupled with the usual Higgs mechanism that br...

The hidden Stueckelberg Z′ model is augmented by a pair of Dirac fermions. If the Z′ has a coupling strength comparable to weak scale coupling, one can show that this hidden fermion-antifermion pair could be a milli-charged dark matter candidate with a viable relic density. Monochromatic photon flux coming from the Galactic center due to pair annihilation of these milli-charged particles is cal...

متن کاملThe Lamb shift contribution of very light milli–charged fermions
The leading order vacuum polarization contribution of very light milli–charged fermions with charge εe and mass μ to the Lamb shift of the hydrogen atom is shown to imply a universal, i.e. μ–independent, upper bound on ε : ε < ∼ 10 for μ < ∼ 1 keV. This is in contrast to expectations based on the commonly used approximation to the Uehling potential.
